DC COVID-19 Resources

 

Hello School Food Collaborative,

We hope that you all are continuing to stay safe and healthy in this time of uncertainty. Individuals, nonprofits, and small businesseshave been working tirelessly to take care of each other and provide meals and supplies to each otheras the COVID-19 epidemic continues. As the weeks go on, we will continue to update this list of meal sites, additional resources during coronavirus, and ways to support your community.

 

 


Food Access Sites

 

As schools and restaurants close, many individuals, businesses, and community groups have stepped up to provide meals to DC residents. View the full details for each meal site at DC Food Project's continuously updating list of resourceshere. The DC Food Policy Councilalso has a map of many of the available food resources on their pagehere.

General Meal Availability

  • DC Dream Center- Serving free hot meals in Southeast DC every day from noon until they run out, no ID required.
  • Jose Andres - Think Food Group Restaurants- Operating community kitchens in select locations, beginning March 17th daily from 12-5pm for take out service only at their side doors. View link for all restaurants in the DC Metro Area.
  • Little Sesame- In partnership withDreaming Out Loud DC, they will provide meals to vulnerable communities. Buy a gift card give a meal. Distribution begins March 16th at Kelly Miller Middle School 301 49th St NE, Weekdays 4-6pm
  • Bread for the City- Operating reduced hours at NW Center, but offering groceries to medical patients with urgent care needs. SE Center is closed through March 31st.
  • St. George's Episcopal Church- Providing a hot breakfast to anyone in need every other Saturday. The next"Breakfast Bags to Go" will be Saturday April, 4 at 9am.
  • $50 SNAP Matching by Expensify.org- Expensify.org is going to temporarily redirect all of its charitable funds to a new program: matching SNAP grocery purchases up to $50 per family. Go to theirwebsitehereto learn how.
  • Martha’s Table- In partnership with DC Health and Capital Area Food Bank, they will support DCPS and DCPCS to offer pre-bagged groceries for neighbors at their SE and NW DC locations and will continue to serve pre-packaged meals through McKenna’s Wagon - a mobile food service that delivers hot meals to two downtown locations to support community members experiencing hunger and/or homelessness

Meals for Hospitality Industry

  • Hook Hall- Distributing care kits and family meals daily from 6-8pm for DC industry workers, you must bring a paystub to prove you are in the industry to receive supplies
  • Succotash- Hospitality workers who are now without work or a steady income can visit Succotash Penn Quarter between 5pm-8pm daily for a free to-go dinner, fresh produce, and supplies. Dinners are offered on a first-come, first serve basis and roughly 250 meals will be available nightly (limit 2 per person, unless there is an emergency situation).

Meals for Hospital Workers

  • &Pizza- Providing FREE pizza to hospital workers (valid id required). Text them at 200-03 #Hero to obtain unique code. They're also running a buy one, give one program. Buy a pizza and give one to someone in need!
  • Rasa- Providing FREE take-out meals to hospital workers (valid ID)
  • Sweetgreen- Delivering free Sweetgreen salads + bowls to hospitals. Requesthere. All other customers can get free delivery through the Sweetgreen app + online.

Meals for Seniors and Vulnerable Populations

  • DC Department of Aging and Community Living- From March 16-31, all DACL-funded Senior wellness centers & community dining sites closed for activities. Boxed lunches will be available 10am-2pm or until last lunch is picked up at all 46 meal sites. Must be age 60 and over. Call 202-724-5626 for info.
  • Medium Rare- Delivering FREE meals to the senior community in DC.Email[email protected]or directly message on Instagram (@MediumRareDC)
  • Food For All DC- Servingthose who are homebound, including elderly citizens, handicapped, or single mothers with young children.Deliveries every Saturday, 9:00am - 2:00pm.(240) 505-4607.
  • Food and Friends DC-Free meal and grocery delivery available to people living with life-challenging illnesses. Clients must be referred by a healthcare provider.
  • Some grocery stores in the area have incorporated special hours to allow seniors and other vulnerable populations to shop before anyone else has entered the store. Contact your local store to confirm hours!

Meals for Kids

  • DCPS and DC Public Charter Schools will be providing meals for kids under 18 for as long as schools are closed (now extended through April 24). You can view the DCPS meal siteshereand below as well. TheDCPCS sites can be viewedhere.
  • Starting THIS WEDNESDAY MARCH 25, these10 additional DCPS meal sites will be added to the list:

  • Little Miner Taco(Rhode Island Ave)- Kids eat FREE from the kids menu during school closures in DCPS and MD (one meal per student per day)
  • Purple Patch DC- Offering FREE grab and go kids bagged breakfast and lunch daily from 10am-2am.
  • Capital Area Food Bank- Offering grab-n-go meals at DC kids cafe sites:
    • Brookland Manor- 2525 14th St NE, (Ward 5) Lunch Service Monday-Friday 1pm-2pm
    • City Gate- 4275 4th St SE, (Ward 7) Lunch & Snack Service Monday-Friday 1pm-3pm
    • Jubilee Early Start - 1650 Fuller St NW, (Ward 1) Lunch & Snack Service Monday-Friday 4:30pm-6:30pm
    • Little Lights 1212 - 1212 I St NW, Lunch Service Monday-Friday 1pm-2:30pm
    • Little Lights Hopkins - 1000 12th St SE, Lunch Service Monday- Friday 1pm-2:30pm
    • Tutoring Cafe - 6906 4th St NW, Lunch & Snack Service Monday-Friday 2pm-3pm
  • Momma’s Safe Haven- Providing programming for youth and providing rides to/from DCPS meal sites. For a ride call 202-903-5122.
  • DC Central Kitchen- Serving takeaway food at Walker-Jones Education Campus (Ward 6) and Kelly Miller Middle School (Ward 7) Mon-Fri 10am-2pm. In addition, these mobile feeding locations are serving to-go breakfast and lunch for children:

How to Support Your Community

 

Community-based organizations are looking for volunteers and donations! Help support these organizations as they provide meals and services for people most impacted by coronavirus and the subsequent school and business closures.

 

Volunteer Opportunities

  • DC Public Schools- In need of volunteers to help keep running their many meal sites for kids in DC during school closures! Please fill out the linked survey.
  • Aunt Bertha- Aunt Bertha’s network connects people seeking help and verified social care providers that serve them by zip code. Contact your local shelter to see what help and/or items may be needed
  • Capital Area Food Bank- In critical need of volunteers to help sortand packfood in their warehouse and assist at their offsite food distributions
  • Food and Friends DC- In urgent need of extra volunteers throughout the coming weeks.There are two volunteer opportunities, food preparation and packaging and meal and grocery delivery
  • Food Rescue US- Volunteers with vehiclesneeded to pick up and deliver food from businesses to DC residents in need
  • Grace’s Table- Looking for volunteers to help feed the homeless each Saturday
  • Martha’s Table- Volunteers needed to help prepare and bag food.
  • We Are Family- Volunteer to deliver groceries to seniors.
  • Sign uphereto volunteer to run errands for our elderly or immunocompromised neighbors

Financial Donation Opportunities

  • ROC-DC- In need of financial donationsto provide emergency relief to impactedrestaurant workers in the DMV
  • So Others Might Eat (SOME)- SOME is in need of financial donations for supplies and meals for their clients
  • N Street Village- in need of financial donations to continue providing key services and meals for thousands of women experiencing poverty and homelessness in DC.
  • Food it Forward- Help keepDC restaurant jobs, and help feedDC families in need by buying a meal package. Martha’s Table has teamed up with Clyde’s Restaurant Group, amongst others, to deliver meals to those in need — while helping keep restaurant workers employed
  • Greater DC Diaper Bank- Preparing to serve families for the next two months. Please consider making a donation.
  • DC Dream Center-In need of financial donations to continue providing free meals and supplies to those in need in Southeast DC
  • Bread for the City- Accepting monetary donations for groceries, diapers, and medical supplies to give clients during open hours. Please consider making a donation to support their effortshere.
  • Momma’s Safe Haven- In need of donations to continue providing programming for youth and providing rides to/from DCPS meal sites
  • Sasha Bruce Youthwork- In need of financial support to help them keep their doors open to homeless youth
  • Little Sesame- Every $10 in gift cards you buy provides a meal for someone in vulnerable communities
  • Martha's Table- In need of financial donations appreciated to continue their education, health and wellness, and family engagement programs
  • Miriam's Kitchen- In need of financial donations to help neighbors experiencing homelessness receive access to a sink or have a home to stay when they are sick
  • Capital Area Food Bank- Financial contributions appreciated to continue their mission of providing food to food insecure neighbors
  • DC Central Kitchen-Financial contributions ensure that they can continue to serve the community
  • World Central Kitchen- Donate to World Central Kitchenorbuy gift cardsto one of the Think Food Group restaurants to support their community kitchens
  • Calvary Women’s Services- Financial contributions allow them tomaintain a safe and caring home for all the women in their housing programs
